The Experience Nelson County Spring Newsletter

Spring has arrived in Nelson County.  The valleys are green and the mountains are budding.  It is time to start thinking about Summer activities in Nelson County and Wintergreen Resort.

Check out the free daily blog about Wintergreen Resort and Nelson County at www.ExperienceNelsonCounty.com.  We now have over 500 readers a week on this blog and popular topics have been hiking, area restaurants, kids programs and golf.  If you have not had time to check out the blog, I have just posted a “blog archive” to the web site.  Are you looking for information on activities, restaurant reservations, hiking, wineries, kids programs or current events?  Check out the blog archive and print only the information that you need.  The archive includes hundreds of pages of information on Nelson County and Wintergreen Resort that are all organized by category.

The most popular postings from the past month were the days of the Red White and Brew Tour of Nelson County.  (That’s red wine, white wine and micro brew)  Check out those stories in the blog archive.

The blog also contains an updated calendar of current events.  Many events for May are already posted to the calendar.  Check the calendar often for updates.

If you have a special blog request, please let me know.  I am also looking for guest writers on topics that cover either Nelson County or Wintergreen Resort.  Send an email to kim@ExperienceNelsonCounty.com

The 25th Annual Spring Wildflower Symposium

This year’s Spring Wildflower Symposium runs from Friday, May 16th-Sunday, May 18th and it is not too late to sign up to attend.  You can register on line at www.twnf.org.  The Symposium includes nature walks, hikes, classes, a native plant sale and children’s activities.  I will be a volunteer at the symposium’s ice cream social, and I hope to see you there.  Not only is this an educational program, but it is for a great cause.  The Symposium is created and managed by The Wintergreen Nature Foundation.

A New Restaurant and A New Coffee Shop

In recent blogs, I posted information about a new restaurant in Nellysford, the Dogwood Restaurant.  The Dogwood has just announced that they will begin to open for breakfast on April 28th.  We are excited to have a new breakfast option in the valley.  The Dogwood is also now open for both lunch and dinner.

Just behind the Ski Barn (building with bright blue roof at corner of Beech Grove Road and Rt. 151) is the new Sparrow’s Coffee Shop.  As of this week, there is a banner announcing that they will be opening soon. They will be serving both breakfast and lunch and will have WiFi.  This will be one of the first WiFi spots in the Nellysford area, and we are thrilled to welcome them to the community.  In the same area, there will be a restaurant and a brewery by Fall, 2008.

The Nellysford Farmer’s Market

The opening of the Nellysford Farmer’s Market is always a sign that Spring has arrived in Nelson County.  This year, the Farmer’s Market will open on May 3rd at 8AM.  The Farmer’s Market is under the large white tent on Rt. 151, at the entrance to Stoney Creek.  Many guests arrive early to take advantage of the fresh produce, flowers, cheese and baked goods.   One of our favorite vendors has the Amish homemade peanut butter.  We hope that they are back this year.  This year, there will be live music.

When you visit the Farmer’s Market on May 10th, be sure to check out the Open Houses in Stoney Creek at Wintergreen.  Look for the Wintergreen Resort Premier Properties Open House signs at the entrance to Stoney Creek and follow the signs to visit several resort properties.  The houses will be open from 11AM-4PM.

Mother’s Day Brunch

It is not too late to make reservations for the annual Mother’s Day Brunch at the Copper Mine in Wintergreen Resort.  I browsed the menu this week, and it looks great.  There will be breakfast items as well as carving stations and lots of fresh seafood.  Of course, there will be the popular chocolate covered fresh strawberries.  For more information, go to www.WintergreenResort.com

Free Coffee Promo Continues

Even though ski season is long over, Wintergreen Resort Premier Properties has decided to extend the Free Coffee Promo.  Stop by the Wintergreen Resort Premier Properties office in the Mountain Inn and pick up a free coffee coupon.  The office is open seven days a week and is the official real estate office of Wintergreen Resort.  While you are there, pick up a listings packet.  We are the only county real estate office that provides a packet including all of the listings in Wintergreen Resort.  We also have resort maps and lot guides.

Memorial Day in Wintergreen Resort

Now is the time to make rental reservations for resort condos or homes for Memorial Day Weekend.  This is one of the most popular weekends during the year.  Go to www.WintergreenResort.com, or www.IIMoose.com or www.VRBO.com to book a reservation.

All of the resort pools will open as well a Lake Monocan.  The annual craft show will return to the Mountain Inn Village, and we will be grilling hamburgers and hotdogs on the Blue Ridge Terrace.  All 30+ miles of hiking trails will be open as well as the Wintergreen Nature Foundation.  It is a great way to kick off the Summer season in Wintergreen.

To celebrate Memorial Day, I will be having my annual Bar-B-Q on Saturday, May 24th.  This year the event will be from 11AM-3PM and will be in The Seasons parking lot on the corner of Wintergreen and Blue Ridge Drives.  Everyone is welcome to attend my annual appreciation party.  It is also a great way to see the new Seasons community.  We were just breaking ground on the community last year, and you will be able to walk through the model home during this year’s party.    If you would like an invitation to this year’s party, send an email to kim@ExperienceNelsonCounty.com and include your mailing address.  Last year, we had 60 people for lunch and the party is predicted to be grow in 2008.  Hope to see you there!
