Welcome to Spring
After a wild Winter in
Nelson County and Wintergreen Resort that
included a record of 90+ inches of natural snow,
Spring is finally here. Wintergreen Resort had
a great Ski/Ride Season. Don’t despair that
Ski/Ride Season is over, there is plenty to do
in Wintergreen Resort and Nelson County this
Spring.

your mailing address.
A Big Thank You to all of
my daily blog readers. We had a lot of fun
wading through the snow this Winter. Keep
sending me your emails with questions and
comments about Wintergreen Resort and Nelson
County.
Hiking Season
When I poll my clients and
blog readers, they tell me that hiking is the
number one family activity for Spring, Summer
and Fall in Nelson County. Nelson County has
many hiking opportunities, for all ability
levels. My Blog Archive at both of my web
sites,
www.ExperienceWintergreen.com and
www.ExperienceNelsonCounty.com have stories
about hiking in Nelson County. Here are a few
of the options:
Wintergreen Resort: There
are over 30 miles of marked and maintained
hiking trails in Wintergreen Resort. If you
would like to receive a hiking trial map, send
an email to
kim@ExperienceNelsonCounty.com and include
your mailing address. Also, The Wintergreen
Nature Foundation offers weekend guided hikes on
Saturday and Sunday mornings. (reservations
required)
The Appalachian Trail: The
AT runs through Nelson County and provides
beautiful views. Expect to see wildflowers in
late April and May on the trail in Nelson
County.
The Blue Ridge Parkway
Trails: The Blue Ridge Parkway also runs
through Nelson County and has many stops that
include hiking trails. This Spring, I will be
blogging about these Parkway trails.
Crabtree Falls is one of
the most popular hiking trails in Nelson
County. The Crabtree Falls area and trail can
be found on Rt. 56, near Montebello and the Blue
Ridge Parkway. Follow the trail up Crabtree
Falls. This is a must-see in Nelson
County—bring your camera.
Golf
Usually, Stoney Creek Golf
Course is open year-round. Due to heavy snow
cover, the course was closed for many weeks this
Winter. The course is now open and looks great
for early-Spring play.
Devil’s Knob Golf will open
in mid-April. Stay tuned to my daily blog at
www.ExperienceWintergreen.com for golf
updates.

GeoBarns Arrives
in Nelson County
Stop by the new Rockfish
Heights neighborhood in Nelson County to see a
GeoBarns house being constructed on Lot 4.
Rockfish Heights is located off of Spruce Creek
Road, just minutes from either Nellysford or
Wintergreen Resort. The new neighborhood
features large building lots (over 4 acre each)
with outstanding views.
What is a GeoBarn
structure? Here’s in an excerpt from their
brochure:
“The GeoBarn is a unique
structure combining modified post and beam
timber construction with diagonal framing and
open span truss systems. This allows for
tremendous versatility and complete freedom in
choosing interior layout.”
Imagine a value-priced home
with an open floor-plan and amazing Nelson
County views. Plus, the construction model is
both strong and beautiful.
Right now, the inventor of
this building system, George Abetti, is on-site
to build Nelson County’s first GeoBarn home. We
have been visiting the building site this Spring
and taking photos of the construction progress.
Architect and designer, Tim Luwis, will be
completing the project in late Spring and early
Summer. Some of you visited his home on Devil’s
Knob Loop in Wintergreen Resort last year.
If you would like to visit
Rockfish Heights and the new GeoBarn home, send
an email to
kim@ExperienceNelsonCounty.com Shortly,
the home at 4 Rockfish Heights will be listed
for sale. I will be hosting open houses and
tours later this Spring.
You can follow along with
the construction on my web site,
www.ExperienceNelsonCounty.com/Rockfish/Rockfish.htm
I also have both Lot 5 and
Lot 6 listed for sale in Rockfish Heights.
A Hiking/Fishing
Cabin for Sale
Over the years, I have
often written about a Hiking and Fishing Cabin
that is a popular Nelson County rental—6011
Crabtree Falls Highway. This retreat is now
listed for sale for $175,000. The 1BR cabin is
being sold furnished and includes river frontage
on the Tye River. The cabin is perfect for
Appalachian Trail hikers as the trail is a quick
walk from the cabin. Ask any Realtor to visit
this cabin. (Currently a rental on VRBO.com)
