July 4^th Holiday Weekend

My annual July 4^th Holiday Guide is posted on the home page at www.ExperienceNelsonCounty.com.  The guide includes events from Thursday-Sunday.  Click on the July 4^th banner at the top of the home page for a full calendar of events.  The calendar may be printed for easy use all weekend.  This year’s fireworks in Wintergreen Resort be on Friday, July 4^th at dark.  The fireworks and live music are open to the public and are free of charge.  Gather at the Dobie ski area for some of the best views.  Be sure to bring a blanket or some chairs.  Picnics are welcome.  Food from venders will also be available. 

There is an Arts & Crafts fair, free live music, food venders, outdoor movies, The Dome and The Adventure Center and many, many more activities.

The Seasons community will host the Grand Opening of its model on July 5^th from 10AM-4PM.  The Seasons is a unique community offering 24 luxury townhouses.  Each townhouse is 3670 square feet of living space with 4BR and a bonus media room.  Excellent views from the 4^th floor Great Room.  Each townhouse is four floors and has a private elevator.  Come by and check out the model on July 5^th.  Visit the web site at www.TheSeasonsAtWintergreen.com   I hope to see you there!

     Hiking in Nelson County

The most popular blog stories this Summer have been about hiking in Nelson County and Wintergreen Resort.  Here is information about a few web sites that provide information about hikes in Nelson County.

Another resource for hiking trail information can be found at www.NelsonCounty.com/visit/hikes   This web site reviews many hiking opportunities throughout the county.  There is also information on this web site about the Appalachian Trail that runs through Nelson County.  Note that there are a few AT trail heads with parking in Nelson County.  One of the most popular is at Reed’s Gap, near Wintergreen
Resort.

A resource that I have found is a web site that showcases hiking trails on the Blue Ridge Parkway.   Check out the web site at:  www.brptrails.com.  The Blue Ridge Parkway runs through Nelson County.  Each mile of the Parkway is marked with a milepost.  Trails, picnic areas and scenic overlooks are all marketed in literature by the milepost number.  This provides a quick and convenient way to find parkway features and amenities.  The Blue Ridge Parkway has hiking trails for all abilities.

For some blog stories about hiking in Nelson County, check out my Blog Archive at www.ExperienceNelsonCounty.com.  Click on the Archive link and then “Hiking” in the library.  A great hike for this week’s hot weather would be the Paul’s Creek Trail in Stoney Creek at Wintergreen.  This trail runs along the creek and includes a swimming hole.   The swimming hole is filled with crisp mountain water. 

The Wintergreen Nature Foundation also sponsors guided weekly hikes during the Summer.  For a calendar of their events, go to www.TWNF.org.  There is a small charge to join the guided hikes.  This is a great family activity and hikes are available this Summer for all ability levels. 

Nelson County Photo Contest

In July, I will launch another Nelson County Photo Contest.  This year, I am partnering with The Sparrow Café in Beech Grove in sponsoring the photo contest.  Keep an eye on my daily blog for full details.  Categories for the contest include:  Nelson County Wildlife, Scenes of Nelson County and “Made in Nelson County” (including wineries, crafts, orchards and farmer’s markets)  There will be prizes and a gallery open  in the Sparrow Café.  Get your cameras ready!  (photos must be of locations in Nelson County, VA)  Entry forms will be available on www.ExperienceNelsonCounty.com soon. 

New Cleaning Company Serving Nelson & Wintergreen
