Memorial Weekend Guide

 

Friday, May 23rd 8PM:  Join Wintergreen Resort for a night of Appalachian folklore and S’mores.
Saturday, May 24th 6:30AM-2:30PM:  If you are an early riser, go by Sparrow’s Café in Beech Grove for some great coffee and a hot breakfast.  They also have free WiFi.  Come in and check your email and I will be posting a live blog from the café around 7AM.  Sparrows also has picnic items and a great lunch menu. 
  7AM:  Also serving breakfast includes The Dogwood in Nellysford and The Copper Mine in Wintergreen Resort.
  9AM:  Stop by Wintergreen Resort Premier Properties in The Mountain Inn and pick up a Free Coffee Voucher.  You can use the voucher across the hall at the Colony Coffee Shop.  The Colony Coffee shop will be serving fresh-baked breakfast bagels, muffins and pastries.   You can also stop by later for salads and sandwiches. 
  8AM-Noon:  Stop by the  Nellysford Farmer’s Market.  In addition to purchasing fresh, local produce, eggs and cheese you can also pick up some picnic supplies for the weekend.  Enjoy some free local live music too.
 

10AM-6PM:  Sign a banner for the Troops in Wintergreen Resort

  11AM-3PM:  Hickory BBQ at The Seasons in Wintergreen Resort.  Join us for a sneak-peak at the new Seasons community in Wintergreen and have some Virginia Hickory BBQ.  Check out The Seasons at www.TheSeasonsAtWintergreen.com  I will be there serving pulled pork BBQ, chicken and sides to include slaw, potato salad, beans and homemade cookies for dessert.

  10AM-6PM:  Wintergreen Winery “Wine into Summer” Memorial Weekend Celebration.  Admission includes live music, wine and food tasting, wine glass, riverside picnics, door prizes and much more.  Call 434-361-2519 for details. (fee)
  11AM-5PM:  The 29th Annual Fiesta de Primavera at Mountain Cove Winery.  Celebrate the release of new wines, with live music, good food and great tours.  (no pets, please)  Call 434-263-5392 for details. (fee)
 

1PM-4PM:  Enjoy a day at Lake Monocan.  Weather permitting, there will activities for the entire family.  The public is welcome.  Without a Wintergreen Pass, the lake entrance fee is $11 for adults; $8 ages 6-12 and free 5 and under.  There will be boat demonstrations by Blue Ridge Mountain Sports.  Mongrel’s will be playing live music to include a mix of Country, rock Reggae and Swing.  There will be a craft workshop and the grill will be open with hotdogs and hamburgers.

  Noon-6PM:  Festival of the Wines at the Evans Center in Wintergreen Resort.  This festival is presented by the Wintergreen Performing Arts.  Tickets are available at the door.  Tickets are $20 per person and includes a free wine glass and some tastings. 
 

5PM:  Hayrides from the Overlook in Wintergreen Resort.  The rides are free for resort guests and WPI Members.  The public is welcome to join for a fee.

 

8:30PM:  Join us for the family movie, Enchanted.  This is a classic Disney fairytale and it will be shown outdoors, under the stars in Wintergreen.

Sunday, May 25th

7AM:  Check out the Sunday Breakfast Buffet at The Copper Mine in Wintergreen.  Colony Coffee in the Mountain Inn will be open with coffee and fresh-baked breakfast goods.
 

10AM-6PM:  Arts & Crafts Show in Wintergreen.  More than thirty artisans, including potters, jewelers and woodworkers from around the East Coast will display their work.  Stop by the Wintergreen Resort Premier Properties Tent for information about area real estate.

  Join Ridgley the Bear for the Grand Opening of Wintergreen Resort’s newest attraction, The Dome.  Everyone who comes to the Grand Opening of The Dome will receive a pass to Lake Monocan. (1 adult to every 2 children)  Also, enter to win prizes all day.
  11AM-6PM:  The Blues and Brews Festival in Wintergreen Resort.
 

8:30PM:  Family Movie at Wintergreen Resort:  Horton Hears a Who, Rated PG.
